                        Trained in Economics and Sociology in Brazil and Germany, Sérgio Costa, was a professor of political sociology at Federal University Santa Catarina (UFSC, Brazil) and a research associate at the Brazilian Centre for Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP, Brazil). Since 2008, he has been a professor of sociology at Freie Universität Berlin. He is the current director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at FU Berlin and one the directors of the Maria Sibylla International Centre Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America.
