Dr. Fouad Halbouni

Fouad is an anthropologist whose current research explores interrelated questions about minority belonging, sectarianism and identity politics in the aftermaths of the Arab revolutions. As a postdoctoral researcher, he is jointly affiliated with  the "Beyond Social Cohesion: Global Repertoires of Living Together" (RePLITO) program in FU Berlin and the Forum Transregionale Studien. In 2019, he received his PhD in cultural anthropology from Johns Hopkins University. Alongside art critic Ismail Fayed, Fouad co-founded the History and Cultural Memory Forum (HCMF), a series of seminars that explore interrelated themes in Arab cultural history such as Walter Benjamin in Arab thought, the legacy of Jewish intellectuals in the Egyptian communist movement, and the history of Egyptian avant-garde movements. The forum has produced specialized booklets on the themes discussed in the seminars.
